Draftkings is an online platform which allows you to create fantasy sports lineups, and complete against friends or the general public. Optionally, you can bet real currency on games, and win real currency in return. Draftkings is not like most fantasy platforms though. Each lineup is associated with a specific timeframe, such as a day or week. There are no season-long lineups, so there is no need to worry about committing for an entire season. Step 1: Sign up

To sign up for Draftkings, go to https://www.draftkings.com and click sign up. Enter all of the required information and hit submit. After click submit, you will be taken to the deposit page. Make a deposit of your desired amount (your amount will be matched), and click submit again. Keep in mind that you can withdraw your funds immediately, so take full advantage of the matching bonus. You cannot withdraw the bonus.

Step 2: Familiarize yourself

Congratulations! If you’ve made it this far, you’re ready to start winning money! Take some time and just browse around the interface. Make sure you understand how everything works. The lobby tab is where you go to enter new contests. The lineups tab is where you can adjust and change your lineups (before the contest starts). The contest tab provides detailed information about live, upcoming, and recent contests. The league tab contains is where you can create privates contests with your friends. This is very fun to do in your workplace. The missions tab contains a daily mission that you can complete to earn FPPs (Frequent Player Points, more on this later). Finally, the promo tab contains all of the current contest promotions.

Step 3: Choose contest

Before diving in, I want to talk about the primary types of contests in Draftkings. I like to think there are two main types of contests, the tournaments, and the 50/50s or doubles. Tournaments are a massive collection of people who pay a small entry fee to compete for large prizes. A small portion of the entire entry list is selected to win money, typically less than 10% of the entrants. 50/50s and double-ups. however, work much differently. You pay an entry fee and HALF of the entries are winners. The top 50% of the contest will win money. In double contests, you’ll win two times your entry fee, and in 50/50s exactly half of the entries will win just under two times your entry fee.

For example, in a $1 double-up contest, 45 or so out of 100 people will win $2. In a 50/50 contest, 50 out of 100 people will win $1.88 or so. If you think about your odds, are you more likely to place in the top 10% every time you play? Or are you more likely to place in the top 50%? I can tell you from experience, you will not place in the top 10% often. That being said, choose your 50/50 or double-up contest and proceed to the next step!

Step 4: Play!

Time for the fool-proof method of creating a money-making lineup every time! Regardless of the spot, this method will work and you will win at least 90% of the time if you follow this method. I will not be going into detail about definitions or terms.

Start with the highest-scoring position. Sort the plays according to FPPG (Fantasy Points Per Game). This will show you the best fantasy players, listed from top to bottom. You can just go ahead and pick the top result, as long as the player is set to play. I always click the player’s picture and look at the past 10 games to see how consistent they are. If you’re worried about the salary cap, go ahead and scroll through the list and find somebody that has had a decent score over the past 10 games. Also, try to take into consideration “high-scoring” games. If the Steelers played the Browns last year, you could expect that Antonio Brown would have an amazing game, so pick him!

Move to the next position and repeat the same process. Continue this for all positions. You’ll likely be over the salary cap, but we will fix that. Now, look at your lineup and how much money you need to free up to be under the salary cap. Look at the most expensive players you have, and decide if you can do without them (not the Antonio Brown style player, just an expensive player that’s not posed to have a high-scoring game). Remove them from your lineup and look for a decent backup. Do the same thing you did in the beginning. The most important stat is the past 10 games, aside from accurate predictions. Submit your lineup when you’re under the salary cap.

Step 5: Monitor

Keep an eye on your lineup about a half-hour or so from game time. Lineups change and you want to make sure your players will be playing. There is nothing worse than the greatest lineup in the world, but you picked a pitcher that isn’t playing today! You can change your lineup as much as you’d like up until game time. Some contests will let you edit players after games have started, as long as that specific player’s game has not started.
